Wild Week

This past week has been a blur to me as so much has happened, some good, and some not-so-good.  Last Saturday night, I went to bed with a mild pain in the upper part of my stomach.  I have been having these pains for several months, even before I had Karsyn.  In the past, the pain would come on in the middle of the night, and it would go away within a couple hours, so I never saw a doctor to see what it was.  I always just thought it was indigestion, or something along those lines.  Well, this time, at midnight, it woke me up.  Mark was still awake, and he asked if I wanted to go to the ER.  I told him, not to worry, it would go away in a couple hours.  Well, it didn't.  It kept on ALL night long.  I maybe got 30 minutes sleep from midnight to 6am.  So, at 6:00, I woke Mark up and told him that I thought it was time to go to the ER.  So, we got Karsyn up, fed her, and off to the ER we all went.  Thankfully, I was able to get ahold of a friend within an hour or so, and they came and picked up Karsyn so she wouldn't have to be exposed to all the germs, etc. that the Emergency Room has to offer!!  After giving me some kind of numbing concoction that I had to drink, the pain was still there, so they decided it wasn't heartburn....HELLO....I could have told you that!!!  So, they gave me the good stuff.....demerol through the IV!!  Off to la-la land, and to get an ultrasound, I went!!  I could barely stay awake through the ultrasound, but I had to because they needed me to take deep breaths and move around...so, why exactly did they give me the demerol BEFORE the ultrasound??  Oh well, I stayed awake, and they took me back to the room.  All they told me was that I had gallstones, and needed to follow-up with a surgeon within a couple days...nothing major, nothing to worry about!!  YEAH RIGHT!!  So, once we got home, the pain had subsided, so I didn't need any more pain medication, and I started getting the chills and achy.  I thought it was just a side effect to the demerol they gave me in the ER, and just went to bed.  After all, I hadn't gotten much sleep, so I didn't really care!!  I had every intention of going to work the next morning, and calling the surgeon and making this stupid appointment, that I thought I didn't need!!  So, Monday morning rolls around, and I can barely move, let alone go to work!!  I haven't felt this bad since I was pregnant, and I think I felt worse because I always made it to work while pregnant!!  There was no way I could go in.  So, Mark stayed home with me (Thank God)!  I couldn't have made it on my own!!  I was still feeling achy and getting chilled, but again, just thought it was a side effect.  Well, around noon, I started throwing up.  I took my temperature at 1:00, and it was 102.3.  I figured it was time to go to a doctor to make sure I didn't have something else going on, or if it was my gall bladder doing all this to me.  So, I made an appointment, and went to a regular doctor.  My temp was still elevated to 99.8, so they went ahead and drew some blood.  Now, my white cell count was up, and they wanted to put me on 2 antibiotics.  No biggy, they said to keep my appointment with the surgeon, which was for the following day, and make sure to tell them what had been going on.  So, we went home.  I called my boss and told him that I would be in the next day after my appointment with the surgeon unless I was running a fever!!  I had no idea what was in store for me!!  I slept most of this day away as well!

So, we are at Tuesday.....

Karsyn had her 6 month check-up already scheduled, and we had to postpone it the week before because she was sick, so she NEEDED to go!  So, when we woke up, I started puking NON-STOP.  There was no way I was going to be able to take her, and no way I would subject all those kids to my sickness!!  So, poor Mark.....took off with her in tow by himself!  He called me about an hour later and told me that all went well, and he was off to drop her at daycare.  I wanted all the details....HE HAD NONE!!!  LOL....All he could remember was that she was in the 25th-50th percentile on her height and weight, but was in the 75th percentile on her head circumference!!  He kept saying, "The doctor says she has Doctor Brains!!!!"  He was so proud that she has a big head!!  LOL  He had no idea the importance of all of this information, but I knew I could get it later, so I was just thankful that she was healthy and the visit was a success!!

BTW....she weighed 15 pounds, 8 ounces, was 25 1/2 inches long, and her head circumference was 17 inches!!  She is a healthy baby, and that's all that matters to us!!!!

Now, off to my surgeon visit.....

So, we go in there, and mind you, I'm feeling like I could vomit at any given moment, and we have to wait for what seemed like FOREVER!!  We finally got called.  We got back to the room, and the nurse wants to know every single detail.  I understand why, but can you not see that I feel like complete CRAP??  No make-up, hair in a ponytail, and look like I'm on my deathbed, and you want to know when all this started???!!!  Well, once the surgeon found out how much I had been puking and how sick I really was, she immediately wanted to admit me to the hospital....fine by me....I just wanted a bed!!!  Needless to say, work is going to have to wait!!  To the hospital we go.....OH NO...what are we going to do about Karsyn???  THANK THE LORD Mark's mom was able to come down right then and stay until further notice!!  So, we enter the hospital, go to the admissions desk, and yep, I have to puke!!  LOL!!  So, the closest bathroom is in the lobby of the hospital...GREAT...of course I have nothing to throw up, so dry heaves, here we come...IN PUBLIC.  I hate being sick!!!  Once I got up to my room, they started IV fluids, and within about an hour, I felt great!!  Of course, they had an order for NO FOOD OR DRINK.  OMG....who doesn't let you even have water??  My stomach started growling and I just knew that I wasn't going to make it!!  I almost wish I had been hurting, so I could get some pain meds, and they would knock me out!!  How sad is that???  I talked the nurse into letting me have a few ice chips, and I savored them!!  She brought me a very small styrofoam cup with some ice in it, and I made that last until 7:00, and then when they had their shift-change, I had to talk the next nurse into some more!!  She gave me even fewer, but I made those last until I went to sleep at 11:00!!  LOL...it's amazing how long you can make ice/water last when you know you can't have any more!

Wednesday:

Got woke up at 6:00am by a nurse saying that it's time for surgery!!  Yeah!!  The sooner, the better.....oh wait, Nope, wrong room....I was so mad!!  So, at around 9:00, they came back and got me and took me to pre-op where we waited, and waited, oh, and we waited some more!!  My surgeon dropped her pager in her car, so when they paged her for surgery, she didn't hear it, so they let somebody else go before me...UGH....She was so mad!!  She had a phone on her side too, but they didn't call her!!  Oh well, she was a good surgeon, so I can't complain too much!!  Finally, at 1:00, I think...they rolled me back there!!  All I remember was scooting onto the operating table, them starting to strap my right arm down, and somebody put a mask on me for oxygen....then HELLO world....I'm in post-op with a guy asking how my pain is.  Man, that was fast!!  They took me back to my room cause with me not eating, they didn't want me to go straight home, but said if I felt like it, I could be discharged later that evening....well, YEAH...I don't care how I feel, I'm going home to see my baby!!!  So, I took a little nap in my room, and they woke me up with a plate of some nasty hospital food, but it had strawberries and grapes on it and a dinner roll, so I ate that stuff, and was completely full.  As soon as I was done eating, I was ready to go home!!  Still really groggy, but man, I wanted my own bed!!

Thursday and Friday are all a blur really.  I was in a pain med-induced sleep!!  I got up for a while each day and sat in the living room, but I mainly slept.  Sandra was still here, and she was taking care of everything!!  She was great!!!

Saturday and Sunday were much better!!  I didn't have to take any pain medicine at all, so I started getting back to my normal self, and I started helping with Karsyn, and she was in the BEST mood!!  She started saying "da-da" this weekend, even though I have tried teaching her "ma-ma" from the very beginning!!  LOL...sorry Mark!!!  Last night, we put her in her walker, and she started rolling backwards in it!!  She is getting so darn big, I just can't believe the things she can do now, when only 6 short months ago, she just layed in my arms and couldn't even roll over.  *Sniff, Sniff*

So, here we are on Monday again....I can't go back to work until the surgeon releases me, which is hopefully tomorrow morning.  I'm ready to go back, especially because all my hours that I had built up are gone now, so I need to start over and start building them up again.  I was hoping to take a week off during the summer to spend some time with family, but that's not going to happen, so I'm going to start building my time up for Christmas now.  I am sad that I had to use all my time off for this type of thing, but am VERY thankful that it was there to use!!  I don't know what we would have done if I didn't have it!!

Okay, this turned into a novel....I'm sorry!!!  Enough about me, next time, there will be lots of updates about Karsyn instead of me, hopefully!!  So, goodbye, gall bladder....it was nice having you, but even nicer since you are gone!!!!

Mother's Day Weekend

Wow!!  I can't believe it has been over 5 weeks since I posted last.  I'm so sorry to any followers we may have out there.  Karsyn keeps us extremely busy.....

Mother's Day weekend was full of surprises!!  First off, I turned 6 months old on Friday, the 7th....and SURPRISE...woke up with a horrible wheez and cough.  It was so loud, and it scared Mommy half to death.  She tells me that she was really close to taking me to the ER.  But, we knew the dr.'s office opened at 8:30, so we were there at 8:20 waiting to be seen.  While we were there, they weighed me and my official 6 month weight was 15 pounds, 3 ounces.  I am steadily gaining weight, which is what we like to see with my spit-up issues that they say I have.  The dr. decided to do a chest x-ray, and thank goodness it came back clear.  I just had a bronchial infection, so breathing treatments 3 times a day for 5 days and an oral steroid for 6 days.  We are almost done with the breathing treatments, and we are both extremely happy!!  I hate them!!  LOL!!

SURPRISE #2:

We decided to go to Grandma and Grandpa's house to surprise my Great-Grandparents since it was Mother's Day!!  They had never met me, so it was a much needed visit!!  My Great-Grandma had been ill, so I was unable to be around her, but she is 100% now, so Great Grandma and Grandpa, here we come!!!  We had a fabulous weekend, even though I was still sick.  I got a little cranky at times, but for the most part, was in a very good mood, and loved all the attention!!

Hi Great Grandpa Irvin!!!

Here's my 2 teeth that I show off all the time now!!!!  Aren't they pretty?!?!

That does it for the surprises, and then it was time to head back home.  I just had to sit with Great Grandma and Grandpa one last time before we left!!  Man, I love them two!!!!!
